It was announced at UFC 181 that former WWE Superstar CM Punk had signed with the UFC in December 2014. UFC President Dana White says Punk will make his debut sometime next year in 2016. White also revealed that the UFC is currently looking for an opponent to fight Punk. This will be determined by a new reality show, which will scout potential opponents for the 37-year-old.
Punk belongs to the middleweight division, weighing 185 lbs. He has a background in kempo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, under Rener Gracie. He is currently training for his upcoming UFC debut Duke Roufus at Roufusport MMA Academy. The gym is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is close to his home in Chicago, Illinois. In June 2015, Punk moved to Milwaukee to be closer to the training facility while still retaining his home in Chicago.
The reason Punk is making his debut match in 2016 is because he suffered a shoulder injury, which sidelined him for 6 to 10 months. His debut is highly anticipated, the reason being is because he is a wrestler transitioning to a fighter, from WWE to UFC. A lot of people want to see him win his debut match, but others want to see him get destroyed. I'm really eager to see how Punk will do in the UFC. He could either be a a breakthrough or a bust. Numerous wrestlers have gone from WWE to UFC, and vice versa. Brock Lesnar, a former NCAA Heavyweight Champion, started as a wrestler in WWE in 2002. He left the company in 2004 to pursue a career in the NFL. However he didn't make the cut, so he went to the UFC, where he became the UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World. Can similar success happen for CM Punk? The world is very interested to know when he debuts next year. I believe Punk will find some success in the UFC.
